UC Irvine has narrowed its list of candidates to six and expects to name a men’s basketball coach sometime after the conclusion of the Final Four, probably Wednesday, school officials said.

Former UCLA Coach Walt Hazzard is one of the six, sources said.

Irvine has met with or interviewed at least 11 other candidates: Seton Hall assistant Rod Baker, Irvine assistant Mike Bokosky, Irvine assistant Ernie Carr, Arizona assistant Jessie Evans, Notre Dame assistant Matt Kilcullen, Mater Dei High School Coach Gary McKnight, Ventura College Coach Phil Mathews, Villanova assistant John Olive, Washington State Coach Kelvin Sampson, Purdue assistant Bruce Weber and Princeton assistant Jan van Breda Kolff.

Sampson has said he is no longer involved.
