The U.S. Women’s Sailing Championships, which ended Tuesday on South San Diego Bay, proved to be good to two former yachtswomen of the year.

Courtenay Becker (left) of Rye, N.Y., who struggled in the first two races Monday, rallied to win the Europe Dinghy Class. Becker was the 1990 Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year and the 1988 singlehanded champion.

J.J. Fetter-Isler of La Jolla, 1987’s top yachtswoman, teamed with crew member Pam Healy to finish runner-up to Jody Swanson and Cory Sertl (below) of Eggertsville, N.Y., in the 470 Class. Swanson and Sertl were the co-defending champions in the doublehanded class. Amy and Susan Lawser of Brown University were third.
