Nation IN BRIEF : OREGON : Hatfield to Limit Acceptance of Gifts

Sen. Mark O. Hatfield (R-Ore.), who has been dogged by questions about gifts to him and his family, says he will not accept gifts except from family members or close friends. Hatfield also said he will stop accepting honorariums and will resign from boards or commissions that might have an interest in congressional action. His announcement followed allegations that his children may have gotten preferential treatment in exchange for political favors, and that he did not report $9,300 in gifts.
