** “The Doors,” original soundtrack, Elektra. When is a soundtrack album not a soundtrack album? Try this one. Instead of Val Kilmer’s remarkable facsimiles of Jim Morrison’s singing heard in the movie, the album is one more roundup of familiar recordings by this over-anthologized band. The digital mastering punches up the sound, and you get a little Orff and Velvet Underground. But without the Kilmer vocals it’s just another redundant space-eater on the Doors shelf.

Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to five (a classic).
