Standoff Ends After Man Wounds 2, Kills Himself

A man shot and wounded a woman and her son, barricaded himself in a Country Club Park house and killed himself Tuesday, authorities said.

SWAT team officers who shot tear gas into the house in the 1200 block of 5th Avenue found the unidentified man dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound about 4:45 p.m., Sgt. E. Davis said.

The standoff began about 2 p.m. when the gunman argued with a man tentatively identified as his stepson, tied him up, tried to suffocate him and finally shot him, Davis said. The bound and wounded man was able to jump out a window and stagger to the driveway, where his mother found him soon afterward. The gunman dashed out of the house and shot her and then ran back inside, triggering an hours-long standoff, Davis said. It continued until after the tear gas was fired and police stormed the house and found the man’s body, Davis said.
