FULLERTON : No Plans for Layoffs, City Manager Says

Share

Although the Fullerton general fund now has almost $9 million less than it did at the end of fiscal 1990, the city has no immediate plans to lay off any of its 908 full- or part-time employees.

City officials will, however, review all open positions on a case-by-case basis before deciding whether to fill them, and will ask department heads to inform employees that the employees can voluntarily cut their work hours, City Manager William C. Winter said.

“During this current recession, I do know other cities in Orange County have been forced to lay off employees, but Fullerton has no plans for layoffs, cutbacks or hiring freezes.

The drop in the general fund was caused by the recession, Winter said. General cash fund revenues for fiscal 1989-90 totaled $38.4 million; the figure for the first eight months of fiscal 1991 is $29.8 million.
