Compton : Temporary Halt Ordered in Condo Demolition Project
City Council members have agreed to temporarily stop demolition of the run-down Santa Fe Gardens condominiums, located at Santa Fe Avenue between Alondra and Compton boulevards.
The 30-day halt will be used by a developer to compile a feasible plan to renovate portions of the 140-unit complex.
The developer, HUB Cities Home Improvement Center, a privately owned business, wants to develop the property. The developer owns 74 units and the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, a group of more than 400 churches, has promised to purchase some of them, said Arnold Parnell, HUB’s project manager.
City workers have torn down two buildings and are working on a third, City Atty. Wesley Fenderson Jr. said.
“Most of the units have been declared a public nuisance because of their substandard conditions and violations of building codes,” he said. “The City Council ordered the units demolished about a year ago.”
