CAMARILLO : Water District Cuts Rationing Goals
The Camrosa Water District, acting in accord with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, has relaxed a water cutback mandate for its residential and agricultural customers.
The district, which receives 90% of its water from the MWD, imposed cutbacks of 30% for homeowners and 70% for farmers after the MWD announced reductions in supplies to Camrosa.
However, the MWD decided Tuesday to reduce its conservation requirements, thereby opening the door for Camrosa’s board of directors to relax their own proposed cuts, which were to have become effective April 1. The cutbacks were not implemented because it was expected that the MWD would ease its restrictions.
Gina Manchester, Camrosa general manager, said residential customers will now have to cut water use by 20% and farmers by 50%.
“This means that homeowners will be able to use over 300 gallons a day instead of the average 295 that was mandated with the 30% cutback,” she said. “This does help the farmers, but they’ll still be hurting for water.”
Camrosa serves about 26,000 residential customers and 220 farmers in eastern Camarillo and the Santa Rosa Valley.
