Homeless Shelter Gets Low-Interest Renovation Loan

Share

The operator of Halcyon House, Anaheim’s only facility for homeless families, has been awarded a $12,000 low-interest loan by the city that will enable it to make a number of repairs and renovations.

The Anaheim Interfaith Shelter, which operates the facility, will use the loan to overhaul the plumbing, ensure that the bathroom and kitchen facilities are up to code and improve the appearance of the home on Pauline Street in central Anaheim.

The home is divided into 10 living units in which homeless people can stay free and participate in job and educational counseling. The shelter also offers residents help in budgeting their finances, including nutritional courses geared to feeding a family on a tight budget.

Since it opened in the summer of 1988, Halcyon House has provided temporary shelter to more than 150 people, which the operators say gives homeless families an opportunity to save their money, and, in many cases, move on to a permanent home.
