‘Bubbling’ Chemicals Force School Evacuation

Share

Chemicals stored in the industrial arts department of an Alhambra high school began “bubbling” Thursday, prompting a partial evacuation of the campus as a hazardous materials team labored to stabilize and remove the substance.

Police said 2,600 students of Mark Keppel High School were on spring break and the only people ordered to clear out were employees in the immediate area of the affected building. No injuries were reported.

A school official said the chemicals, which had not been immediately identified, were stored in the building’s “cold room.” A Fire Department team was expected to remove them.
