Filming Delayed for Movie on Bicyclist’s Story

Filming of “I Can’t Lose,” a movie about a handicapped bicyclist from Fullerton that is being produced by a small company based here, was to have begun Monday in Placentia but has been postponed for about a month, producer Jack McLean said Thursday.

McLean said he is fairly confident that James Earl Jones will still be able to appear in the movie, even though the veteran actor had been scheduled to work on it next week. “We are now negotiating to get him for the week of June 3,” McLean said. If he’s unavailable then, the producer added, “it’s just a question of when.”

Asked the reason for the postponement, McLean said, “There have been a few problems we have to clear up to protect our investors.” He would not elaborate.

“I Can’t Lose” is about the late Bruce Jennings, who bicycled across the country in 1976 after losing a leg in a motorcycle accident.

Jones has been slated to play a fellow convalescent who inspires Jennings to take the cross-country trip. The movie is to be the first production by the MRB Group Inc.
