Walnut : Sidewalks Aren’t Required
Rural areas currently without sidewalks will not be required to install them under a policy adopted by the City Council last week.
The council determined that sidewalks would be contrary to the atmosphere of Walnut’s rural neighborhoods, some of which are lined with equestrian trails rather than concrete walkways.
Under the policy, non-rural neighborhoods lacking sidewalks may be reviewed for possible installation, with pedestrian safety being the determining factor. A January staff report indicated that nearly 17% of the city lacks sidewalks.
