Plan for School-Based Health Clinics Assailed

Share

* Gov. Wilson believes that there should be a variety of social services available at schools. Although he is cutting overall education spending by $2 billion, he has set aside $100 million for new child development and education programs, including $20 million to encourage other cities and school districts to follow San Diego’s lead in establishing school-based clinics on campuses.

Why is this such a priority for the governor? Could he see this as one way to take control of local school districts and thus be able to promote his own agenda?

Why should teachers trying to teach the traditional curricula--reading, writing and arithmetic--lose their jobs, and yet there’s enough money for these experimental projects?

Again, our schools and students are being used as guinea pigs for political purposes. Santa Ana school board--please say no to all school-based clinics. They’re the foot in the door to disaster.
