For Pets’ Sake, Don’t Put Them in the Wild

Share

* Recently, during my morning walks along Back Bay Drive in Newport Beach, I have been seeing domestic rabbits that have been dropped off by irresponsible owners.

In the past two weeks, I have seen three such rabbits, and this morning I spotted a fourth. It was a solid black lop-eared (I think) bunny. It had been blinded and had a mutilated hind foot so it couldn’t hop. There was blood in one ear. It was not afraid when I approached it because it was tame.

I hope the former owners of this black bunny read this and feel ashamed, but I doubt that they can or will.

People should not drop pets in the wild; they will not survive and will die in a sad and inhumane way.
