LA HABRA : Cellular Telephone Station Rejected

Share

After complaints from dozens of concerned residents, the city Planning Commission has voided the planned installation of a 60-foot reception and transmission station for cellular telephones.

The unanimous vote last week against the PacTel cellular facility, which would have been located on the site of La Habra Self Storage on South Beach Boulevard, came after commission members agreed with residents that the transmission pole would be an eyesore next to a housing community.

“I do not feel that this is an appropriate place for PacTel to put their pole, basically just for aesthetic reasons,” Commissioner Juan M. Garcia said.

The city already has a 60-foot cellular transmission station on 4th Avenue, but it is located within an area zoned as light industrial. That facility is not owned by PacTel.

PacTel representatives said they will seek alternatives, adding that they had no specific plans at this time.
