From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Two men convicted of kidnaping and robbing four college students in a crime rampage that netted them only $57 were sentenced Monday to life in prison. Timothy Long and Terry Alphonso Turner hung their heads as Superior Court Judge William Mudd rejected their pleas for leniency. Long, 19, of South Bend, Ind., and Turner, 27, of Los Angeles had blamed their criminal behavior on malt liquor. The students were forced into their own car, then were driven around east San Diego while the robbers threatened to execute them unless they came up with more money.
