Gas Company Seeks Rate Reduction: Southern California Gas Co. is seeking an increase in its monthly customer charge from $3.10 to $4.10 a month, but a reduction in usage rates to reflect the lower costs of natural gas. If approved by the California Public Utilities Commission, the proposal’s net effect would be a reduction of about 10.8% on the overall bill of an average residential customer, the gas company said. Rates for commercial and large industrial customers, which generally only pay for pipeline use, would increase by 48%. If approved, the new rates would go into effect Oct. 1.
