Santa Fe Springs : Construction Funds OKd for Police Services Center

Share

The Santa Fe Springs Redevelopment Agency has unanimously approved spending $457,000 to start construction on a Police Services Center. The total budget for the center is about $1 million.

The center will be manned by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, with whom the city contracts for law enforcement. For the first time, Santa Fe Springs residents will have a permanent local place to go for police services, Assistant City Manager Frederick Latham said. Currently, residents must go to the sheriff’s station in Norwalk.

The two-story, 6,000-square-foot building will be on the southeast corner of Telegraph Road and Jersey Avenue, and should be completed within the next year. The center’s staff will include a sheriff’s sergeant and detective as well as a public safety officer to answer community inquiries.

Besides police services, the office staff will oversee or coordinate local animal control officers, park rangers, crossing guards, Neighborhood Watch volunteers and community awareness programs, Latham said.
