From Staff and Wire Reports

The organizing committee for the 1994 World Cup of soccer, which will be played for the first time in the United States, unveiled its official logo in a Century City ceremony.

Created by Pentagram Design of New York, the red, white and blue logo combines a soccer ball and the stars and stripes of an American flag.

“This will be the most widely seen logo for an event in history,” said Chuck Cale, the organizing committee’s chief executive officer. He estimated that the logo will be used one trillion times throughout the world between now and the end of the tournament.
