Edward C. Stodel; War Correspondent Worked for Film Studios

Edward C. Stodel, 82, former film writer for the old Los Angeles Herald Express, a writer and producer of several local radio series and publicity and promotion executive for Warner Brothers, Paramount and Republic studios. Stodel served as a Marine Corps correspondent during World War II and was credited with the first radio broadcast from Guam after the island’s liberation from the Japanese. Afterward he became a founder of the Marine Corps Newsmen Assn., forerunner of the national Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Assn. He also wrote and produced the TV film “Combat Correspondent,” which starred Gene Barry. His family came to Los Angeles in the 1880s and has been involved in service and philanthropic activities since. In Los Angeles on Tuesday.
