MOORPARK : Low-Income Project Funds Allocated
Moorpark officials will allocate $62,000 next year for developers trying to acquire land for affordable housing projects in the city and another $50,807 to help local charities administer programs for the city’s poor.
A total of $194,580 of Community Development Block Grant funds from the federal government is earmarked for projects benefiting low- and moderate-income residents.
Charities chosen from the 13 groups who requested funding include programs geared toward senior nutrition, adult literacy, long-term care and victim advocacy for residents in old age homes, legal services for the poor and various programs run by the Catholic Charities.
An additional $81,773 will be allocated to improve streets in the downtown area, city officials announced Wednesday night.
National objectives for the grant include eliminating slum conditions or relieving urgent health and safety needs.
Last year, the city used the funds to improve streets and structures in low-income areas and to assist the Boys and Girls Club in purchasing a new site.
