Newport Harbor 9, University 7--Chris Bowen hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give host Newport Harbor (8-8, 6-3) an 8-7 lead.

Corona del Mar 9, Woodbridge 3--Brady Lamar had three hits, scored twice, stole his 20th base of the season and had three runs batted in, and Neil Weber (3-3) pitched a four-hitter, striking out nine and walking five for host Corona del Mar (8-8-1, 4-4-1).

In the Century League:

El Modena 3, Orange 0--Brad Gibbons pitched a three-hit shutout to lower his earned-run average to 0.92 for host El Modena (10-5, 7-2). Gibbons struck out six.

Santa Ana Valley 4, Canyon 3--Jose Arroyo drove in the winning run with an infield single in the top of the sixth inning for Santa Ana Valley (7-12, 4-5). Arroyo had two hits and two RBIs. Freshman Rick Crosby (4-1) pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief after taking over in the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded.

Foothill 6, Villa Park 4--Neil Garcia had three hits and three RBIs for visiting Foothill (8-9, 5-4).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 16, Loara 8--Visiting El Dorado (15-4, 8-1) had 23 hits, including a grand slam by Tyson Dowdell, a two-run home run by Chris Barlow and a two-run home run by Andy Osborne.

Esperanza 10, Cypress 3--Joe Foss allowed five hits and one run in four innings for the victory for Esperanza (17-2, 7-2).

Katella 14, Los Alamitos 2--Dennis Briggs had three hits and scored four runs, Kyle Evans had three hits, including a three-run home run in the second inning, and five RBIs, and Chris Reed had two hits, including a two-run homer in the first and three RBIs for visiting Katella (7-2 in league).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 18, Orange Lutheran 1--Steve Little (1-0) pitched a six-hitter, struck out 10 and walked two for host Whittier Christian (10-5, 6-2). Little also had three hits and four RBIs. David Whitby had three hits, scored four runs and had two RBIs and Paul Stoico had three hits and three RBIs for Whittier Christian.

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 3, Magnolia 1--Luis Palomares (2-2) pitched a four-hitter, striking out five and walking one, for the victory and Greg Cole had three hits and one RBI for Anaheim (9-10, 7-2). Brea-Olinda 13, Valencia 5--Chris Briones had two home runs and two RBIs and Marc Feine had two hits, including an inside-the-park homer, and two RBIs for visiting Brea-Olinda (10-9, 6-3).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Century 3, Estancia 1--Estancia’s Kyle Wilson, who pitched a no-hitter against Century in the teams’ last meeting, didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning and allowed three hits in the game, but he was outpitched by Tom Reimers (2-2), who allowed four hits in six shutout innings.

Laguna Hills 11, Trabuco Hills 0--Brett Nista hit a grand slam and allowed two hits in four innings to earn the victory for visiting Laguna Hills (12-6, 8-1). Jeramy Gillen had two hits and three RBIs for Laguna Hills.

Laguna Beach 6, Costa Mesa 4--Jason Levinson had a two-run homer in the fifth inning and an RBI double in the seventh for visiting Laguna Beach (5-10, 4-5).

In the South Coast League:

Irvine 1, El Toro 0--Chris Greinke scored on Chad Baker’s fielder’s choice in the third inning for Irvine. Mike Seal (4-2) pitched a four-hitter and struck out five and also had two hits for Irvine.

Capistrano Valley 11, San Clemente 2--Chris Lugo had two hits and four RBIs, Chris Adams hit a three-run triple in the fourth inning and Scott Patton (4-2) hit a home run and got the victory by pitching six innings for host Capistrano Valley (10-8-1, 3-5-1).
