Unfair Assessments

Share

It is absolutely absurd that the California Supreme Court has never declared the unfair method of real estate property tax assessments in this state to be unconstitutional. How can any reasonable human being find it fair to maintain a tax, year after year, which was based on the selling price of a house?

Each and every homeowner should pay real estate taxes in accordance with the current value of the property.

If the state of California thinks that the current method of obtaining taxes from the owners of real estate is fair, then the state and local governments in California should start providing a higher standard of current services and some additional benefits to those who are being penalized for not purchasing real estate sooner.

How about special freeways for these people? Sure, this sounds ridiculous. But it is no more ridiculous than the current approach to determining how much of a tax burden should be thrust upon each property owner.

Such unfair taxation can only exist in a place like California, where the government has proved so often that it represents every possible aberration of sane thought. It is now up to the U.S. Supreme Court to make a decision on this issue. Any rational person would realize that basing property taxes on the selling price of a house can not be justified under our most precious document, the Constitution of the United States.
