Prince Charles Williams defended his International Boxing Federation light-heavyweight title by stopping James Kinchen at 23 seconds of the second round Saturday.

In the first round, Williams used a left uppercut to set up a left-right combination to knock down Kinchen, the No. 1 contender. Williams, 31-4-2 with 22 knockouts, had Kinchen (47-7-2) against the ropes as the first round ended.

Williams, of Mansfield, Ohio, continued his assault in the second round. Referee Frank Cappuccino stopped the fight with Kinchen, of San Diego, helpless against the ropes.
