The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has given its 1991 Architecture Award to the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, a Portland, Ore., firm with offices in Newport Beach and Seattle. The award will be conferred at the AIA national convention starting May 17 in Washington, D.C. Locally, the firm’s projects include Engineering Unit 2, a 130,400-square-foot, $22.4-million complex on the UC Irvine campus, scheduled to open in 1993. This project won an AIA Award of Merit in 1990. ZGF is also in the preliminary stages of planning for the new Humanities/Fine Arts Building on the UCI campus.
