Weather Disaster Assistance Is Offered
State and federal relief personnel expect to be in Oceanside today as part of a statewide tour offering expanded federal disaster aid to farm workers and others in San Diego County who were hit hard by winter cold snaps that damaged citrus and avocado crops.
Under an April 17 authorization signed by President Bush, disaster workers can offer temporary housing assistance for workers who lost income and may be, or have been, forced from their homes due to the freezes in December and January.
Relief centers opened last week in Fresno, Tulare, Kern, Riverside and Ventura counties, officials said Sunday. The Oceanside stop is part of a tour designed to reach the state’s other agricultural counties.
Today’s stop will be at the Oceanside Community Action building, 605 San Diego St. On Tuesday, disaster relief personnel will be at the Wal-Mart shopping center in El Centro.
Information about disaster aid is available, toll-free, by calling 1-800-525-0321.
