MOORPARK : Council Agrees to Move Restroom Site

Responding to complaints from residents, Moorpark officials have agreed to move proposed park restrooms further from nearby homes.

Citing fears of vandalism, noise and odors, about 10 residents last week asked the City Council to place the restrooms more than 50 feet from their homes, as originally proposed. The council voted to move the restrooms further into South Meadows Park--about 250 feet from the houses in the Quailridge tract of the Mountain Meadows neighborhood.

“That would have been pretty miserable for us,” said Chris Wilson, whose living room would have faced the restrooms. “The prevailing westerly winds lead right to our house.

“My personal preference is not even to have one in the park,” Wilson said of the 500-square-foot structure. She fears the restrooms will still serve as a hangout for teen-agers and will attract crime.

The park, which workers began building last June, will eventually include a play area for small children.

The city chose the original location for the restrooms because it was close to sewer, water and electrical services.
