Scruton on Egalitarianism
Scruton’s column portrays a narrow, and I believe, false view that understands affirmative action and campus diversity as some sort of elixir intended to benefit minorities at the expense of white males. Northing could be further from the truth.
While I hope that minority students profit from their educations at the UCs and/or from other affirmative action activities, clearly the primary beneficiaries of campus diversity are white male students who learn and mature in an atmosphere that at least attempts to more accurately represent the California and world in which they are preparing to work and live.
