MISSION VIEJO : Weed-Abatement Permit Is Delayed

Share

A one-year weed-abatement permit that would allow the Mission Viejo Co. to clear vegetation from its properties will undergo further study by the city’s staff.

The City Council was scheduled to vote on a application by the company on Monday, but council members said they needed more information about the properties earmarked for weed abatement. The application will be considered by the council again at its May 27 meeting.

The company wants to clear vegetation from 21 sites. But before it can begin work, the council wants steps taken to compensate for any effects that the weed-clearing might have on the environment.

Under the permit, the company would be required to notify the city at least three weeks in advance of any weed-clearing and have a certified botanist or biologist inspect the site for any protected plant or animal species.
