FULLERTON : City Seeking Grant to Plant 500 Trees

Share

The city hopes to plant 500 trees this year with the help of a grant from the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

City officials are seeking $13,400 from the Urban Forestry Grant Program, which is part of the California Wildlife, Coastal and Park Land Conservation Bond Act of 1988, to purchase the trees.

The trees would be planted in five locations throughout the city--Woodcrest Elementary School, Fullerton Tennis Center, Cal State Fullerton’s sports complex, Brea Dam and Ladera Vista Junior High School, said Kay Miller, acting director of the city Community Services department.

Miller said the idea to plant the trees was suggested by the Tree Society of Orange County, which asked Community Services to assist it in finding sites and financial support.

Miller said this is the first time Fullerton has applied for the Urban Forestry Grant. The grant application will be sent out in the next few months, she said.
