On the Road Again: Prince Charles and Princess Diana began a five-day official visit to Brazil with a stop in Brasilia, the capital city. While the Prince of Wales and President Fernando Collor de Mello discussed the destruction of Brazil’s vast Amazon rain forest, Princess Diana’s meeting with Brazilian First Lady Rosane Collor was marred by a protest outside by striking civil servants.

* Wrong Number, Wrong Guy: Consider the plight of Edward Kennedy of Palm Beach, Fla. His wife’s name is Joan, his mother is Rose and he’s getting calls from all over the country. But there’s a hitch. This Kennedy is black, has never been a senator and “just wants these nuts to leave me alone.” Kennedy, 38, a staff photographer at the Palm Beach Post, and his wife are expecting their first child in July. “We’re not going to name it Patrick or Caroline or any of those names,” he says, “especially not John or Edward.”

* Getting the Welcome Mat: Lech Walesa was given a 21-gun salute and a welcome from Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle Tuesday when he became the first Polish president to visit Britain. Walesa, accompanied by his wife, Danuta, is trying to encourage British investment in Poland.

* Bambi’s Plight: Lawrencia (Bambi) Bembenek of Milwaukee, the former Playboy bunny convicted of murder, will have to wait until June 10 to press her fight for refugee status in Canada. Bembenek, who escaped a Wisconsin prison in July and was captured three months later in Ontario, is arguing that she faces persecution if forced to return to the United States. An immigration official ruled Monday that Bembenek had the right to apply for refugee status in Canada but accepted a Canadian government request Tuesday postponing the hearing. Bembenek, 32, was convicted in 1981 on murder charges in the death of the ex-wife of Bembenek’s then-husband.
