Rosemead : Fireworks Sale Limits OKd

Share

The City Council on Tuesday imposed stricter limits on the sale of fireworks in the city.

The measure, passed unanimously, requires that sellers of the pyrotechnics be at least 18 years old. Vendors are also required to have a minimum of $1 million in liability and property damage insurance, which fireworks wholesalers operating in the city have agreed to provide on behalf of charitable groups that sell the fireworks each year for the Fourth of July.

The city already limits the sale and discharge of fireworks to the week of the July 4 holiday. This year, sales will be allowed from June 28 to July 5. But the amended ordinance restricts the purchase hours to 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Mayor Jay T. Imperial said that although the law ensures better safety, it still allows community groups who sell fireworks “to use this function to make money.” State law requires that buyers be at least 16 years old.
