L.A. FIESTA BROADWAY / SUNDAY, APRIL 28 : 36-Block Fiesta Planned for Downtown on Sunday

More than 500,000 revelers are expected in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. for L.A. Fiesta Broadway, a Latino music and entertainment celebration.

The pre-Cinco de Mayo fiesta will cover 36 city blocks and cause a number of street closings. Traffic will be closed from Saturday at 9 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m. from Temple Street on the north, Olympic Boulevard on the south, Main Street on the east and Olive Street on the west from Olympic Boulevard to 6th Street. Olive will be open between 6th and 1st streets.

The north-south streets nearest to fiesta area to be completely open will be Los Angeles Street and Grand Avenue.

The event is sponsored by KMEX-TV/Channel 34, Univision, the city of Los Angeles and Miracle on Broadway, a public and private partnership dedicated to restoring a historic 10-block downtown corridor.

Seven entertainment stages will be erected on Spring, Broadway and Hill streets: Anheuser Busch’s at 4th and Spring, Oldsmobile’s at 2nd and Spring, Pepsi-Cola’s at 7th and Hill, RJR Tobacco’s at 9th and Hill, KMEX-TV’s at Olympic and Broadway, Univision’s at 1st and Broadway and Target’s at 6th and Spring.

Attractions include the World Cup Sports Center, Los Ninos Play Park, a Health and Beauty Fair and La Ruta Hacia Su Futuro job fair. Food and beverages will be sold.
