COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Orange Coast Scores in Seventh to Win in Softball

Orange Coast scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Riverside, 2-1, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday at Orange Coast.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Alicia Nelson reached on an error, took second on a fielder’s choice, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Becky Toler’s grounder.

Nelson (18-7) also pitched a three-hitter, allowed one unearned run and struck out four for Orange Coast (30-13, 12-4 in conference). Tina Fuata had two hits for Orange Coast.

In other Orange Empire Conference softball:

Cypress 13, Fullerton 0--Tricia Barr had three doubles and Laura Corson (22-7) pitched five innings, allowing one hit and striking out four, for visiting Cypress (35-10, 12-2).

Golden West 2, Saddleback 0--Pam Fogg (10-6) won her fifth consecutive decision and struck out a career-high 10 batters for host Golden West (16-14, 9-7). Fogg has allowed one run in the last 33 innings. Leann Larriva, who leads the conference with a .400 average, had three hits, scored a run and drove in the other run.

In Orange Empire Conference golf:

Orange Coast wins--Ken Calvert and Bryan Saltus of Orange Coast and Sheldon Ryan of Saddleback each shot five-over 77s at Mission Viejo Country Club and the Pirates edged Saddleback, 399-401, for the team title.
