A transient has been arrested in the death Tuesday of a man in Encinitas.
Larry Darnell Evans, 36, an unemployed transient from Encinitas, was held on suspicion of murder Wednesday at the County Jail in Vista, Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Manny Castillo said Thursday.
James Daniel Kahlow, 36, also an unemployed transient, was found about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday slumped over on the sidewalk near the Beach and Town Liquor store on 1st Street, Castillo said.
Kahlow was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators from the medical examiner’s office said an autopsy revealed that Kahlow had suffered internal injuries.
Castillo said that, after talking to several transients Wednesday, investigators found that the two men had been involved in a fight the day before in an area near 1st and D streets. The cause of the fight was not known.
