Tustin : City Hall to Move--to Temporary Home

Share

City Hall will have a new location beginning Monday.

Tustin City Hall, at 300 Centennial Way, will be closed today for last-minute packing, and movers will spend the weekend setting up shop at 15222 Del Amo Ave.

On Monday at noon, the temporary Del Amo location will be open for business with about 60 city employees working there.

The move is the first step toward the expansion and remodeling of the Tustin Civic Center, which is expected to take two to three years and cost about $11 million, City Manager William A. Huston said.

Once City Hall is vacant, it will be modified with walls moved and storage areas added so the Police Department can use the building while its adjacent facility is being remodeled. That move is expected to happen about July 1.

“We have to phase it that way because it’s just not practical to move the Police Department off the site,” Huston said. “It is not cost-effective and would present operational problems.”

The Police Department is expected to move back into its remodeled facility in about 18 months, at which time work will start on City Hall and the council chambers.

Work on the Civic Center will include the addition of a second story and a two-level parking lot. Changes to the council chambers will improve the acoustics and add an area for audiovisual presentations, Huston said.
