Two reputed Garden Grove gang members were arrested Thursday on suspicion of trying to kill a rival gang member in front of a restaurant earlier this month, police said.

Their target, Phong Nguyen, 21, of Orange, was shot in both legs in the April 7 attack outside Thanh Xuan Restaurant at 2217 N. Fairview Street. Chuyen Huu Nguyen, 25, one of the men arrested, was shot in the face and leg, apparently by accident, by members of his own gang, police said.

Santa Ana and Garden Grove police, armed with search and arrest warrants, raided two Garden Grove residences and arrested Chuyen Nguyen and Thanh Hoang Le, 24, on suspicion of attempted murder.

Both men were being held at Orange County Jail on $250,000 bail.

Chuyen Nguyen, Hoang and two other men went to the restaurant “with the intention of shooting rival gang member Phong Nguyen,” said Santa Ana Police spokeswoman Maureen Haacker. Police were not sure what the dispute was about, Haacker said.
