About 250 students, soldiers and residents assembled on Tustin High School’s Northrup Stadium football field Friday night for a salute to military personnel who served in the Gulf War.

The rally was the idea of student Pat Collins, head of the school’s patriotism committee. Students spent about six weeks planning the celebration, passing out flyers, posting banners and spreading word of the event, organizers said.

The keynote speaker, Brig. Gen. Wayne T. Adams, commander of the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, said: “I have literally traveled most of this world. . . . In my travels, I don’t believe I’ve witnessed an outpouring of support like I’ve experienced here in Orange County the past few months.”

The Foothill High School marching band accompanied Frank Anthony Kazerski, who sang the anthem he wrote, “Red, White, and Blue . . . God Bless You.”

Collins said the rally reflected “the pride and image of the school.
