Complaints About Ethics Law

Share

John Ferraro says he is offended by people “out there” who think a free lunch, a bottle of wine or a case of apples is going to influence his vote on city matters. As one of those people “out there,” I am offended by his cavalier attitude that these “gifts” are just perquisites of the job of being in public office.

I contend they are an unnecessary part of public life or office and further that the motivation of persons who give “freebies” is suspect.

No one gives me tickets to concerts or fund-raising dinners or validates my parking stubs unless I buy from their store or contribute to their “cause”!

The whole purpose of the ethics law is to put public servants above reproach. It only seems logical to me that those who complain about the restraints have something to hide.

The current disillusionment of the public over politicians and bureaucrats is best corrected by strict enforcement of the ethics law and its regulations.

So be offended, Mr. Ferraro, but return the apples, wine, etc. and no one “out there” can be offended any longer by your performance as a public servant.
