Shorter Nursing Program Backed
I understand that the sad shape of our economy has forced the Ventura County Community College District to slash the part-time nursing program for September, 1991.
But I believe a program for part-time enrollment would better accommodate students than the full-time program. The extremely high rate of attrition that the current full-time program experiences is counterproductive for the college and the students.
Most of the students in the program are mothers, and many are single mothers who do not have any adult help with their children. It seems against all odds for a mother to make it through the two-year, full-time program.
As a consumer and struggling mother, I feel obligated to express my desire for the one thing only the college can provide--a hope for my future and the future of countless other mothers who find themselves in the position of not being able to earn enough at dead-end jobs.
