Free Trade and the Environment

I am among those Americans who wholeheartedly support a new trade pact between the U.S. and Mexico. There are many opportunities for both countries which may only be realized by lowering existing trade barriers.

However, it is in the interest of both governments to act in some concrete fashion to stem the tide of illegal immigration. Unfortunately, most Americans, especially in border areas, judge Mexico and Mexican culture by the most obvious examples that they see and who are perhaps the least representative of what Mexico has to offer. To foster a healthier and freer relationship between our two countries, I suggest that this issue is of prime importance. An unchecked flow of illegal immigrants is absolutely the worst kind of public relations.
