The total purse for the Wimbledon tennis championships will be a record $6.8 million, but it will not be equally distributed among the men and women, Wimbledon officials said.

Although the total payout is a 5% increase over last year’s, Wimbledon officials rejected demands by female tennis players and officials for equal pay. The men will receive $3.7 million, the women $3.1 million.
