PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Mission Viejo’s Sorenson Stops El Toro on One-Hitter

Mission Viejo’s Eric Sorenson gave up one hit, a leadoff home run to El Toro’s Sal Schachter, in the Diablos’ 3-1 victory in a South Coast League game Wednesday at El Toro.

Mission Viejo (9-13, 4-8 in league) scored three runs in the second off El Toro’s Rob Johnson, who had five strikeouts after two innings and finished with 10. El Toro is 12-12, 6-6.

In other South Coast League games:

Capistrano Valley 9, Irvine 0--Travis Burgus (6-2) allowed five hits, struck out 11 and didn’t walk anyone in his second shutout of the season. Chris Adams had three hits and three runs batted in, Brand Caso had two hits and an RBI and Joe Geiss had two hits for visiting Capistrano Valley (13-8-1, 6-5-1).

Dana Hills 7, San Clemente 4 (10 innings)--Al Sukut hit a three-run home run in the 10th inning for host Dana Hills (17-6, 9-3). Danny Anderson (4-1) got the victory in relief.

In the Angelus League:

Servite 7, Loyola 1--Ray Basurto drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single and Jake Spielman drove in one with a bases-loaded base hit in a five-run third inning for host Servite. Cliff Mierendorf (4-1) allowed seven hits and struck out six for Servite (11-11, 5-7).

In the Garden Grove League:

Santiago 9, Rancho Alamitos 3--Jamie Estrada had three hits and two RBIs and Mike Kissell had three hits, including a home run and two RBIs, for visiting Santiago.

Garden Grove 1, Bolsa Grande 0--Nathan Blea (3-2) allowed three hits, struck out 11 and walked two for visiting Garden Grove. Joe Aguirre led off the sixth inning with a double and scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jim Sebreros for the Argonauts (10-8, 7-4).

Kennedy 4, La Quinta 2--Scott Wood hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to break a 2-2 tie and give Kennedy (13-10, 5-6) an upset victory over La Quinta (18-6, 8-3).

Los Amigos 8, Pacifica 7--Ethan Siddall entered the game in the fifth inning and got two hits and scored two runs and pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit for the victory. Siddall scored Los Amigos’ second run of the top of the seventh inning on a passed ball.

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 4, Western 2--Anaheim had one hit but scored on four sacrifice flies. Jake Barber got the only hit off Western pitcher Lance Dokes in the second and scored on the second sacrifice fly of the inning for visiting Anaheim (11-11, 8-4).

Magnolia 11, Valencia 6--Rich Hughes had a home run, a double and three RBIs and Jason Corder had two hits and three RBIs for visiting Magnolia (10-9, 7-5).

Savanna 2, Brea-Olinda 1 (nine innings)--Kevin Hunt had an RBI single in the ninth inning to win the game for host Savanna (10-9, 6-6). Hien Nguyen drove in the tying run for the Rebels in the fifth. Brea-Olinda (12-10, 8-4) had taken a 1-0 lead in the first.

In the Sea View League:

Tustin 7, Newport Harbor 2--Senior right-hander Ben Munoz entered with the bases loaded and no out in the sixth and struck out the next three batters as visiting Tustin (15-6, 10-2) clinched a tie for the league title. Munoz worked a perfect seventh to get his second save.

Andy Gonzales (6-1) pitched the first five innings for the victory.

Corona del Mar 9, University 7--Trailing, 7-0, Corona del Mar (10-9-1, 6-5-1) sent 13 players to the plate and scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth. Mike Susson hit a three-run home run in the inning and C.W. Ramsay drove in the tying run with a single and George Chelius scored the winning run on a throwing error during the play.
