Shipped: National Zoo officials Thursday shipped frozen semen from Hsing-Hsing, Washington’s beloved giant panda, to Japan to artificially inseminate a panda in a bid to help save the species from extinction. The worldwide panda population is estimated at less than 1,000 and diminishing. “Zoos have to share their resources, and that includes semen,” zoo spokesman Robert Hoage said.

* Acquitted: A mock trial jury of college students in Peoria, Ill., acquitted Lee Harvey Oswald of charges that he assassinated President John F. Kennedy. “It was unanimous on the first vote,” said jury foreman David Oliver. “A majority of the jury believed Oswald was involved, but they didn’t know to what extent.” Evidence included a videotape of the Nov. 22, 1963, assassination as Kennedy’s motorcade drove through Dealey Plaza in Dallas.

* Settled: Werner Erhard and a fired employee each won partial victories in the former worker’s $2-million lawsuit against the human-potential guru and est founder. A San Francisco jury found that Erhard did not wrongfully fire Charlene Afremow, but the panel awarded her $28,400 in damages, saying Erhard and his company disrupted her attempts to start a new business. Afremow said she was fired for protesting excessively long workdays. Erhard claimed Afremow taunted associates to engineer her own dismissal.

* Sealed: Ilona (Cicciolina) Staller, the porn star and member of the Italian parliament, and Jeff Koons, the American kitsch artist noted for his porcelain pigs, will marry on June 1. Months after their well-publicized trans-Atlantic romance began, Staller said she wants “many bambinos.”
