Picassos Vanish: Thieves broke into the Czechoslovak National Gallery through a glass door early Monday and stole four paintings by Picasso valued at $30 million. Police arrived at the museum 17 minutes after an alarm sounded but failed to capture the thieves. Investigators complained that museum guards were slow to react, while the museum’s director blamed inadequate security outside the museum. The four paintings were identified as “Absinth and Card,” “Mandolin and a Glass of Pernod,” “Table With a Chalice” and “The Port of Cadaques.”
