Share

A traveling carnival, food booths and a gymnasium full of Ojai schoolchildren’s art and science displays began drawing crowds Friday at Nordhoff High School.

The fund-raiser to benefit public and private schools throughout Ojai Valley continues today, 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 9 p.m., at 1401 Maricopa Highway.

Students of all grade levels have spent weeks preparing projects for the displays, said Larry Hartmann, principal of Mira Monte Elementary School.

The fair is sponsored by the Mira Monte PTA and the Nordhoff Booster Club.

The boosters are donating their proceeds to the high school’s athletic programs, while the PTA has earmarked its share for the elementary school’s computer lab, art and physical education programs.

All schools in the valley were invited to operate food booths, said PTA President Pat Cary.

Those that sold carnival tickets receive 5% of the gross. Last year’s fair netted $5,000 for each of the two sponsors, she said.
