HUNTINGTON BEACH : ‘Police Appreciation Week’ Begins Today

The Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce has asked motorists to display blue ribbons as part of Police Appreciation Week, which runs today through next Saturday.

The week will begin at 11 a.m. today at the Huntington Center Mall, near Beach Boulevard and Edinger Street. There will be special displays, and police officers will provide information and greet people inside the mall.

Another police display will be set up in the mall parking lot Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Officers from the K-9 Unit and from the horseback mounted patrol will be among those taking part in the demonstration.

The major event of the week will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Saturday at the Civic Center Amphitheater. Police will display a surveillance helicopter and a specially equipped “talking car” police vehicle. Low-cost food will be sold--hot dogs for 25 cents and popcorn and lemonade for 10 cents each.

Motorists can obtain blue ribbons throughout the week at the Chamber of Commerce office, 2213 Main St., or at police headquarters in the Civic Center, Main at Yorktown streets.
