Patrick Roelandt of Belgium rode away from the pack after 108 miles and cruised into the overall lead by winning the second stage of the Tour Du Pont cycling race.

After riding for more than five hours through rolling farmlands, Roelandt emerged from the slow-moving main field and claimed the 136-mile stage from Newark, Del., to Columbia, Md., in 6 hours 15 minutes 50 seconds.

Dag-Otto Laurizten of Norway, the winner of the race in 1989, when it was called the Tour de Trump, outsprinted Greg Oravetz for second by less than a half-wheel length.
