Living in the Age of Instant History

A number of us were very pleased to read “Boogieing on Back to ‘70s” and “The Disco Devotees of the Decade.”

A ‘70s underground movement is alive and well here in Santa Barbara. We are a force of about 10 to 15 University of California graduate students--I won’t name our academic department to protect the innocent--who are dedicated to reviving ‘70s culture, specifically modest menus that include Jell-O, white bread, Cheese Whiz on Ritz crackers, and real TV shows like “Gilligan’s Island” and “The Brady Bunch,” for the simple, communal values that such shows promote.

The best thing about our generation is that we possess a strong ability and desire to not take ourselves, nor life in general, too seriously.
