Nordstrom Inc.: The Seattle-based retailer said first-quarter profit totaled $25.7 million, almost double the amount in the same period a year earlier. Sales rose 10% to $610.6 million. The company said it benefited from improved sales trends, better inventory management and reduced operating expenses.
